Great Britain (officially called the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) is an island nation in the north-west of Europe, consisting of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In England, in the homeland of Shakespeare and the group The Beatles, is the capital of the state of London - the world business and cultural center. Also the country is known for the Neolithic construction of Stonehenge, the Roman baths in Bath and the ancient universities in Oxford and Cambridge.
England
England is a country that is part of the United Kingdom. England is the largest and most populous nation in the UK. It is bounded by Wales and the Irish Sea to the west and Scotland to the north. The English Channel, the Strait of Dover, and the North Sea separate it from Europe to the east. The Isle of Wight, off the southern mainland in the English Channel, and the Scilly Islands, in the Atlantic Ocean off the southwestern tip of the mainland, are considered part of England.
Scotland
Scotland is the northernmost country of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Most of it is occupied by the Kairngorms mountain ridge and the North-West Scottish Highlands with narrow glacial valleys and lakes. The largest cities of the country - its capital Edinburgh with the famous castle erected on the top of the hill, and Glasgow, known for its rich cultural life. Scotland is the birthplace of golf: the first games on this sport took place on the field of "Old Cors" in the city of St. Andrus in the XV century.
Wales
Wales is a country in southwestern Britain known for its rugged coastline, mountainous national parks, the characteristic Welsh language and Celtic culture. Cardiff, the capital, is a refined coastal city with a nightlife environment and a medieval castle with ornamental neo-Gothic interiors. In the northwest, Snowdonia National Park has lakes, glacial formations, hiking trails and a railway that climbs to the top of Snowdon Mountain.
Northern Ireland
Northern Ireland is a region of Great Britain. It is famous for its Norman castles, glacial valleys and mountains, Celtic and Christian monuments, as well as golf courses on the coast. The capital of the country, Belfast, attracts tourists thanks to graffiti dedicated to the conflict in Northern Ireland in the 20th century, known as the Troubles, and the Titanic quarter, in which the shipyard where the famous steamship was built and the modern Titanic Belfast museum are located.
