Broome Park Country Club, Kent, England

THE AREA

Broome Park is a magnificent country estate in Kent. The house was built 1635/38 by Sir Basil Dixwell and stands in 268 acres of superb English countryside known as the Garden of England. The estate has had many interesting owners, the most famous of whom was Lord Kitchener, whose influence is strongly reflected in the dйcor and fittings. The surrounding countryside is dotted with Oast Houses and hop farms, orchards and beautiful gardens. A trip down The Weald on a summer's day cannot be beaten for scenery. If you enjoy seeing animals a trip to Owletts Zoo, founded by John Aspinall, is a must. Its sister zoo is located at Port Lymph where a variety of different animals can be viewed, including rhinos. The Isle of Thanet has many seaside resorts within easy reach of one another and range from the more busy Margate to the quieter resort of Deal. On a clear day you can see France from the White Cliffs of Dover. If you prefer a more cultural holiday, a visit to Canterbury must not be missed, with its majestic Cathedral and Tudor houses. A trip on the river on a punt lasts about an hour and adds to an enjoyable day out to this beautiful city.
