Egypt (or Arab Republic of Egypt) is a Mediterranean country that shares borders with Israel, Gulf of Aqaba, Sudan and Lubya. The capital of Egypt is Cairo. There is a number of places of interest there that every passionate tourist should definitely visit. For example, you can have a walk in the Tahrir Square and visit Egyptian museum that’s located at the very heart of the city. The museum displays a number of antiquities including royal mummies and gilded King Tutankhamun artifacts. Apart from it, there is a wide range of other places of interest:
• Cairo Tower (187m). From the top of the tower one can enjoy a marvelous panoramic view of the city.
• Pyramids and Great Sphinx at Giza
• The Abu Simbel temples (located south of Aswan)
• The Karnak Temple Complex
• Valley of the Kings
• The Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha
Hurghada
The city was founded in the early 20th century and served mostly as a small fishing village. Everything changed in 1980-es when it attracted the attention of both Egyptian and foreign investors. It took time and effort (and, of course, money) to turn the city in to one of the most popular coastal resorts on Red Sea. If you’re a fan of watersports, you’ll definitely won’t regret coming to Hurghada. The thing is that the hotels you can stay at while on holiday offer sport facilities for windsurfers, yachtsmen, scuba divers and snorkelers. Many Europeans choose Hurghada as the city to spend their New Year and Christmas holidays in because of the warm climate. Most of the year, the daily temperature hivers round 30oC.
Cairo/Heliopolis
The ancient city of Heliopolis was destroyed back in 525 BS when the Persians took control over Egypt. The modern city of Heliopolis (located in between Cairo and Cairo International Airport) was founded in 1907 by the Belgian Baron Empain. Actually, there aren’t many places to see there. The biggest advantage of the city is its closeness to the airport. Still, there is a couple of places you may find to be interesting - Baron Empain Palace and Basilica of Notre Dame.
