Dunkeld House Lodges, Perthshire, Scotland

THE AREA

Venture a little further and Scotlands finest golf courses are at your disposal. Whichever season you choose the opportunities abound fishing in spring and Skiing in the Cairngorms in winter. If sightseeing is on the agenda, Scone Palace, the original home of the stone of destiny, or Pitlochry, with its fascinatingSalmon leaps and the Festival Theatre, or Blair Castle, seat the Dukes of Athol, are just a few of the many options available. At the turn of the 19th century, the 7th Duke of Atholl chose the romantic site of Dunkeld, on the banks of the river Tay, to builda highland home for his Duchess. There he built a home in keeping with the outstanding beauty of the surrounding Perthshire countryside. Today that former house has been restored to its original glory, as the Stakis Dunkeld House Hotel. The landscape has changed little since the days of the Duke and the Duches. The river Tay is still one of the most finely salmon rivers, and the 200 acres estate is a colourful tapestry of trees, flowers and woodland walkways. All the pleasure of the bygone age is here in abundance, but now they are more the enjoyable, thanks to the comforts of the modern world.

THE APARTMENTS

Built to match the Edwardian splendour of the Dunkeld House hotel, the beautifully designed Atholl Lodges offers a standard of grace and elegance unique in modern architecture. Inside the luxury continues with space to accommodate six people in comfort and style. Whatever the weather, a fully adjustable central heating system makes sure the temperature is just right, and with large double glazed windows and patio doors, you can enjoy the splendid views without loosing any warmth. Entry to each lodge is gained through a fully tiled hallway, leading off to the two main bedrooms. The master bedroom with its double bed, fitted wardrobes and en-suite bathroom, is beautifully spacious, and included real luxury of its own private spa bath. The second bedroom has two twin beds, and also boasts a bathroom en-suite. Moving on up the stairs, we pass a roomy airing cupboard and another small toilet, then to the real heart of the home, and the focal point, a romantic cast iron solid fuel stove. Here in the open-plan living area you will find that everything is a real home from home, with a fully fitted kitchen including microwave and dishwasher. There is also a TV radio and a game room. As you curl upon the leather sofa, enjoying the view through the wide glazed doors, you will want to say forever. There is one disabled unit on the site.
